We are a cohousing community

The term cohousing refers to a neighborhood designed for strong community relationships and a sense of belonging. We live in private homes but share our common spaces as well as the responsibility of working together to care for them and for our neighbors.

Community Life
East End Commons values diverse experiences, talents, ages, and perspectives. We all have busy and full lives outside of our cohousing life. The community is designed both for privacy and easy community connections.

Private homes. Intentionally designed for acoustic isolation, you'll find your home is quiet and offers everything you need. All homes have a full kitchen, living, and dining areas. All homes also have individual wifi connections, a washer/dryer hook-up, and dishwashers. Additionally, each home has a room-sized outdoor patio space that is private to that home. Homes have a garage, carport, or dedicated parking space. Ground level homes have the option for a garden plot right outside the door and they have a small front porch on the street side.

Community amenities. Beyond the private homes, East End Commons was designed for easy connection among community members. Our homes are all connected by a series of walkways that allow you to "run into" you neighbors as your go about your day. Additionally, we have shared community gardens, an edible garden, outdoor spaces to visit with neighbors, and a Common House, the heart of the community.

The Common House. The Common House serves as a resource and a hub for many activities and is used by all members of the community on a daily basis. The ground floor includes a well furnished kitchen, dining room, and our community mail room. The second level has a guest suite and two multipurpose areas that the community uses for group meetings or reserves for private events. In addition, the second floor has a community laundry room with three large washers and dryers. The Common House has an elevator that links the walkways to homes on the upper floors. Community dinners occur weekly in the Common House and the community holds monthly meetings in the dining area. Individual residents can reserve all or part of the Common House, including the guest suite, for private use or other events.

Opportunities. East End Commons offers lots of opportunities to be involved in community life! Working together and caring for our shared resources offers an opportunity to build neighborly connections and friendship. Some of the ways we are involved include:

Attending community meetings: we hold monthly community meetings which are an opportunity to participate in planning, budgeting, and decision making, as well as a way to know what's happening!

Community meals: we have dinner together. You can join in by pairing up with an experienced community dinner cook or cleaner and then have the lovely experience of sitting down to a regular dinner with your neighbors.

Joining a small group such as:

Landscape team- makes decisions about our shared outdoor space and organizes planting days.
Finance team- keeps track of our expenditures and makes sure we meet our financial and legal obligations as a community.
Common House team- ove
rsees our wonderful shared indoor space.

Organize something fun: we've had dinners, game nights, fireworks viewing, a sing-along, pumpkin carving, a tiki bar, movie outings, concerts. Whatever sounds fun to you will be fun for the community.

Adopt-a-plot: if you're a gardener who enjoys hanging out with your neighbors, choose one of the adopt-a-plots and share with others the joys and tribulations of gardening.

Come out for a work day: we hold regular work days to take care of our shared spaces. Some days involve planting, others might be changing out lighbulbs in the Common House. They are a good way to build pride in our spaces.

Just share: we support a lending economy. From carpooling to a cup of sugar, it's easier and more sustainable to ask EECo first.
