Like many Houstonians, Valentina Hoyos & Mia White, are transplants, with Valentina coming from Cartagena, Colombia and Mia from Baltimore, MD. Valentina is a physician scientist focused on breast cancer at Baylor, who does research in immunotherapy and also sees patients with breast cancer. Mia works in grant writing and communications at a nonprofit called the Houston ToolBank, which lends tools for community projects. In their spare time, Mia & Valentina enjoy exploring ways to help the planet - during the pandemic, this included tending an indoor worm composting bin and veggie and herb garden, and installing a rain collection system. They both love to travel to beautiful natural places, with a couple favorite destinations being Iceland and northern New Mexico. When not travelling, they enjoy the city's many parks with their dogs Emma and Arya and are board game geeks.
