I have lived in several cities and rural towns in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina. Growing up, I was lucky to be surrounded by books, art, dance, music, nature, and making things, all of which I still enjoy, as well as fixing up houses, sewing, exercise, hiking, boating, travel, and Spanish.  I am a mostly retired dentist/educator, having been in private practice, rural public health, and on faculty at dental schools in Texas and NC, and still teach part time at UTHealth Houston.

My pilot son and musician daughter, their spouses, and 2 little grandchildren live in DFW, but I can’t live that far from salt water. Some unusual things about me are that I have lived on a boat, worked as a yacht broker/sailing and navigation instructor in Clear Lake/Galveston Bay, along with my English sailor husband, and logged many miles in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, including a solo sailing voyage to Bermuda and back to the East Coast. I served as a Navy dentist with the US Navy Reserve Dental Corps assigned to the U. S. Marines.

My little rescue dog, a Border Collie/Papillon (no one knows for sure) is my constant companion. I love being outdoors and restoring my formerly mostly grass yards with native plants to attract local wildlife.  Woodworking is a skill I hope to add along with more volunteering and travel. It will be fun to have others in the cohousing community to share some projects with.

Why did I choose to move to cohousing while being a very independent person? When I moved back to TX during Covid times to be closer to my family, from a small town in NC where I had quickly gotten to know everyone on my street, I realized it was not the same for me anymore. Most people I knew in the past had moved on. I never saw many of the neighbors and it felt isolating. When I heard about Cohousing Houston, I thought it sounded like a great idea but didn’t think I wanted to live in the center of a big city.  But when I met the amazing people making it happen I was hooked. Then my sister decided to join too! It feels good not to have to go it alone, AND to have my own little home in within the community.
